It is those records not subject to public disclosure or portions of records that must be redacted that raises questions. It is critical that law enforcement be as well informed as possible regarding the laws governing the access of the public to the information that government has. \n\n\n\nDue to the overwhelming requests for training on this topic\, GSA is offering an Open Records for Law Enforcement training. Presented by Cheryl Payton with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation\, this approximate 4-hour class is scheduled for March 18\, 2025. Each student will receive a copy of the 2014 edition of Georgia Law Enforcement and the Open Records Act “blue book”. \n\n\n\nThe class is limited to 70 students. To maintain an effective teaching edge\, C.H.A.M.P.S. instructors must be provided with knowledge on current teaching trends and other vital resources to maintain a positive image and provide young students with a secure learning environment\, which fosters good public relations between the public and the Sheriff’s Office. In addition\, this three day conference will meet the MOU requirements to send every instructor to a refresher course a minimum of every three years to sustain his/her instructor status in good standing.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBrasstown Resort6321 US Highway 76Young Harris\, GA 31522 \n\n\n\nRoom Rate:  $189 plus 12% local and state taxes plus daily resort fee of $25 per night\, per room. Extensive training on topics relevant to the Office of Sheriff and command staff responsibilities are scheduled.
