This mandated certification course provides basic training for jail officers.
An employee supervising inmates – in any capacity – must be a certified jail officer.
An online POST application MUST be completed and approved 2 days PRIOR to the class start date.
Acquaint the deputy with the Office of Sheriff and the responsibilities and obligations one assumes both to the sheriff and to the community upon employment.
Pursuant to the Georgia Open Records Law, all state, county, and municipal records, except those specifically exempted from being open to inspection by the general public, shall be open for a personal inspection by any citizen of this state at a reasonable time and place.
The training will provide a working knowledge of civil process to include writs, summons, ejectment, procedures, and other court orders. Advanced topics will also include, Fifa’s, garnishments, etc. Each student will receive a copy of the Georgia Sheriffs’ Association Civil Process Manual as part of this training.

Provide the deputy with a working knowledge of the types of civil process handled by the sheriff’s office, to include writs, summons, ejectment, procedures, and garnishment cases and other court orders such as extradition procedures and detainers.

Familiarize the deputy with the basic knowledge of the sex offender laws and the responsibility of the Sheriff’s office as it relates to registering sex offenders.
Acquaint the deputy with the concept of ethics in law enforcement with the emphasis on the consequences of unethical officer behavior and improper officer interaction with suspects and victims.
The purpose of this training is to familiarize the deputy with the transportation of the mentally ill and the unique problems associated with such transportation. This block will also address the laws applicable to commitment of the mentally ill.
