The loss of a deputy or any sheriff’s office employee in the line of duty is a tragedy faced too often. This section serves as a guide for survivors regarding the benefits to which they are entitled.
The Georgia Sheriffs’ Association provides a $2,500 death benefit to any sheriff’s office employee who dies in the line of duty. The Sheriff must submit a letter to the Association requesting the funds. The letter should include the person’s name, a brief description of the incident and a beneficiary’s name.
