Operation Watchful Eye XI
October 26-November 2, 2026

Statewide Residence and Compliance Check of Registered Sex Offenders
Coordinated by the
Georgia Sheriffs’ Association & the GSA Sex Offender Registry Task Force

Sheriffs’ offices conduct residence verifications, compliance checks and make arrests of non-compliant registered sex offenders throughout the year, in an effort to track the movements of offenders and enforce registration requirements.

This is the eleventh coordinated effort encompassing the resources and labor of all sheriffs’ offices in order to illustrate to the public and offenders this critical work is being accomplished.

We invite you to participate in this effort which proved to be a success in past years. Sheriffs’ Offices utilized different methods and approaches to accomplish the verification checks. Feel free to contact your GSA Task Force member or GSA staff to determine what methods were most successful.

Participating in this statewide initiative creates awareness that sheriffs’ offices work collectively, network, and actively engage by participating in statewide verification checks and other non-compliant matters, in order to make our state safer and showcase the excellent work of our sheriffs’ offices.

This planned initiative SHOULD NOT be considered a statewide roundup of sex offenders who are not in compliance with the law, rather, this initiative should demonstrate the ongoing mandated duty of the sheriff to provide notification to the public.

Address verification checks, though not required by law are an important part of public notification. The initiative will undeniably make an impact within the community, ultimately lead to a surge of arrests due to non-compliance, and be an affirmative public relations story for the sheriff.

The activity of this initiative is just a snapshot of the activity that takes place across Georgia’s counties, but will offer the public a glimpse of what this one mandated duty of the sheriff encompasses.

The Sheriffs of Georgia have initiated this statewide check primarily because sheriffs’ offices have a far greater responsibility to register and monitor sex offenders than any other law enforcement agency in Georgia. Primary agencies involved in this initiative are the Georgia Sheriffs’ Association, GSA Sex Offender Registry Task Force, Deputy Sheriffs, Investigators and other SOR Contact Personnel.

Additional law enforcement agencies which sheriffs may choose to involve are the U.S. Marshals, U.S. Probation Officers, Georgia Department of Community Supervision (probation & parole officers), other sheriff’s offices, local police departments and others.

If your office participates in a joint effort with other agencies, please make sure to report your activity to GSA via the electronic reporting system.

This initiative is no different than your weekly, monthly or quarterly verification checks. You may choose to perform as many verifications possible, search for absconders and execute warrants, or simply conduct the normal verification duties typically performed during a week.
