Acquaint the deputy with the Office of Sheriff and the responsibilities and obligations one assumes both to the sheriff and to the community upon employment.
This course is designed provide PIOs, Chief Executives, and other agency members who may interact with the media with the technical skills needed to: respond to media inquiries; write and issue news releases, fact sheets, and other informational materials; coordinate press conferences; and manage emergency scenes.

The Georgia’s Sex Offender Registry statutes continue to significantly impact the manner in which offenders are registered and tracked, placing additional responsibilities on each sheriff’s office.

Provide the deputy with a working knowledge of procedures commonly utilized to search for and locate wanted and/or missing persons.

Provide the deputy with the appropriate techniques in dealing with the media, the legal rights of the media, and how to negotiate certain tactics used by media personnel to gather information from law enforcement officers.

Acquaint the deputy with the concept of ethics in law enforcement with the emphasis on the consequences of unethical officer behavior and improper officer interaction with suspects and victims.
This mandated certification course provides basic training for jail officers.
An employee supervising inmates – in any capacity – must be a certified jail officer.
An online POST application MUST be completed and approved 2 days PRIOR to the class start date.
